James Frazee is a producer, engineer, mixer, and multi-instrumentalist with over fifteen years of experience recording music in the NYC area. He has been nominated for several Grammys for his engineering and mixing work, most recently for Carla Patulo’s “So She Howls”, nominated for best new age, ambient, or chant album of 2023. He began his carer on staff at Water Music Studios, where he was chief engineer from 2006 through 2010. James has worked with artists such as Patti Smith, Sharon van Etten, Ian Hunter, Esperanza Spalding, Loudon Wainwright III, A-Ha, and Flea; and has worked on productions for Apple Music, Amazon/Audible, the HBO series Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl, and the Nexflix series Peaky Blinders. He also produces and edits the Gearclub podcast, is an owner of Retrospec Audio making all tube audio equipment, and is owner of Tiny Transistor, supplying analog audio equipment repair, studio install and design, and technical consultation. James’ current home base is his personal mix studio in Warwick, NY and Hobo Sound Studios in Weehawken, NJ.
